Why We Wear It
The uniform identifies the Scout as someone special and helps achieve the objectives of Scouting. While a uniform doesn't make a scout, its use improves both the Scout and the Troop because it is a visible sign of commitment.
The uniform should not be worn during Troop Fundraising events that are not sponsored by the District or Council, but it is required for all Troop meetings and formal activities such as Courts of Honor and recognition dinners.

When and How to Wear Each Kit
Field Uniform
The "Class A" Field Uniform is the official uniform of the Boy Scouts of America. It includes the official shirt (with proper insignia), pants/shorts, belt, socks, and neckwear. It is required for all Troop meetings and formal Scouting activities such as Courts of Honor and recognition dinners.

Activity Uniform
The "Class B" Activity uniform is used during high-activity events such as work details, hikes, and summer outings. It allows scouts to be comfortable while still maintaining a cohesive troop identity and is often designated by the Scoutmaster for specific outings.

Note: Troop Activity T-shirts and Sweatshirts are purchased exclusively through Troop 4 and are not available at the Trading Post.

badge Merit Badge Sash

Merit badges are worn in three columns on the sash. They may be worn on both front and back.

The sash is worn over the right shoulder. It is never worn on the belt.

Temporary patches may only be worn on the back of the sash.

Do not wear the Merit Badge sash and Order of the Arrow sash simultaneously.
forward Order of the Arrow (OA)
Membership in the Order is for registered Arrowmen only.
The Sash
Worn diagonally across the chest at OA functions and special Scouting activities. The arrow points over the right shoulder.
Pocket Flap
Wear the flap of the lodge where your dues are paid on the right pocket.
Ribbon Pin
Suspended from the button beneath the right breast pocket flap.
Eagle Scout Honors
Eagle Award Ribbon
Pinned centered just above the left breast pocket flap seam. Worn on formal occasions only.
Eagle Palms
Pinned horizontally to the ribbon, 1/8 inch apart. Adults wear the Eagle knot insignia.

Uniform Guide
Required Pieces for Troop 4 Scouts
Uniform Shirt
Official tan long or short-sleeve shirt with green shoulder loops. Required for all formal Class A occasions.
Uniform Pants
Official forest green "Switchbacks" (Classic or Relaxed fit) are standard. Alternate pants in matching shade are permitted if non-cotton.
Uniform Belt
Olive-green web with brass buckle, or official black nylon web belt included with switchback pants.
Uniform Cap
Troop 4 hat or official Scouts BSA hat. completing the uniform look at the discretion of the Scoutmaster.
USA Flag Emblem
Required American flag patch for the right sleeve. Complete your uniform for $1.99 at the scout shop.
Council Shoulder Patch
The official Nevada Area Council CSP identifies our local council. Available for $4.99 at the Trading Post.
Shoulder Loops
Official green shoulder loops identifying you as a member of Scouts BSA.
Neckerchief
Presented after earning the rank of Scout. Worn under the collar; must be returned if leaving the Troop before First Class.
Neckerchief Slide
Official BSA slide or custom woggle used to secure the neckerchief with the Class A uniform.
Socks
Various versions available at the shop or local stores. These guidelines ensure a complete uniform look.
Shoes
Leather or canvas shoes should be neat and clean. Neutral colors are recommended for formal occasions as a general guideline.
Unit Number
The green unit numeral '4' is worn on the left sleeve, proudly identifying you as part of Troop 4 Reno.
Merit Badge Sash
Worn over the right shoulder on formal occasions to display badges. See details below for proper placement.
Troop Activity Shirt
Our official red troop T-shirt. Durable and comfortable for all outings and service projects.
Activity Sweatshirt
Blue hooded sweatshirt keeping you warm during cold-weather camping and winter events.
